Blackjack Basics
If you are the kind of player that enjoys games with rules that are easy to learn, but difficult to master, then Blackjack is certainly your kind of game. While the rules are very quickly learned, there are many influences that a player must understand before achieving any type of proficiency with this timeless classic.
Fortunately Real Time Gaming’s gaming software very closely mimics traditional card play so well that all viable Blackjack strategies will work equally well in Real Time Gaming. This is very important before a player decides to start playing in the online casino environment.
The first item that you must understand is that the odds in Blackjack favor the house. For example, it’s not uncommon for both the dealer and the player to go over twenty-one, or “bust.” If this happens to you will lose your wager.
Another commonly misunderstood bet is the “insurance” bet. This is a side bet that you can make outside the typical wager. This bet comes in to play when the dealer is showing an Ace card face up (players are dealt two cards, initially, with one of the cards being placed face up and the other face down). An insurance bet can then be made. This is a bet that if the dealer has a ten card, and ends up getting a Blackjack, the player will lose their initial wager, but if they made the insurance bet they win that bet. The insurance bet pays two to one and the player breaks even. For many this might sound like a good bet to make but as a player you must realize the likelihood of a dealer getting Blackjack, which is very unlikely with the first two cards. It is typically regarded as somewhat of a fool’s bet, but to novice players appears to be sound thinking. Some experts have even gone so far as to say that this bet should never be made unless a player is counting the cards. Many casinos regard card counting as cheating and a player should never engage in any activity that would be considered unethical.

The New Generation of Slot Machines
As recently as fifteen years ago, slot machines were nearly all-mechanical, particularly three-reel slots, and single paylines were the standard. Today, slots manufacturers are hoping to appeal to a younger generation who have grown up with computers and advanced technology as a part of their daily lives.
Combining amusement game qualities with the latest gaming machine technology, the new generation of slot machines features multi-dimensional, interactive play with glitzy video themes, enhanced stereo sound and incredible graphics. These slot machines are classified as active or semi-active, with players able to interact with the game. Though these interactions do not change the odds of the game or the payouts, they do make the game more entertaining and the player is more likely to play for longer.
Server-Based Gaming
Server-based gaming is one of the newest innovations in casino gaming that allows casino floor games to go interactive and online. Part of their appeal is their flexibility, since game themes and programs can be changed easily and do not require replacing the whole machine. Operators can simply insert a new game chip and a new exterior can be applied to the machine to complete an update. Casinos can also change to a new game with a simple click of a mouse, courtesy of new software being produced by several large slot machine manufacturers. Games can be changed on demand and even tailored to the player based on their game-playing history, as detailed on their player rewards card. Server-based gaming has almost unlimited potential, including the opportunity for two-way communication between players, specialized bonuses, promotions and displays.
Instant Tournaments
Another exciting aspect of server-based gaming is the ability to connect machines and have tournament play. No longer relying on manual collection of scores, the game itself collects and calculates scores automatically. Some versions of these slot machines even come with cameras to film player reactions for all to see, adding to the excitement of the game.
The Long Game
The long game is another new development featuring epic themes and long-term play options. Long game play offers the players the chance to create an identity and password, so they can return to the game multiple times and be able to pick up where they left off. Collecting coins or medals as they play, players are able to open new game themes with new graphics and bonuses as they play.
Another type of long game in use today, most notably with video poker, involves the use of barcoded tickets, which may be scanned and re-scanned for continuous play.
Jukebox Slots
A Jukebox Slots machine is a unique up-and-coming type of slot that blends electronic versions of casino table games with music. Fast and flexible, this server-based game allows the operator to not only control the slots on the casino floor but also the game’s online incarnation. Jukebox Slots players can try slots, blackjack, poker, craps, roulette and more and get points for playing all the games, not just slots, all while listening to their favorite music. The first version of Jukebox Slots carries a soundtrack of legendary Motown greats.
Blackjack – Splitting Cards
